Welcome to the first class of Beginners Yoga Module B! This course is a continuation of Beginners Course Module A (link below) and I'm absolutely loving sharing this with you here. Your energy and positive feedback have been so inspiring and I hope that you're all ready to move forward, exploring new poses, new depths and new states of awareness! Module B is constructed in much the same way as Module A in that it's a 12 part course and each practice is an evolution from the last. If practiced as suggested incredible structure, strength and fluidity will be ignited, along with a deep life-long understanding of the hows and whys of Asana. In this particular class we introduce a new way of starting our practice, we explore new experiences of the front leg in Trikonasana, Virabhadrasana II and Parvsakonasana, and we introduce 3 new poses: Standing Gomukhasana, Dandasana & Urdhva Hastasana in Dandasana. It's also the first time that we transition into full Sarvaganasana using a strap to really contain the arms and open the shoulders. So all in all lots of stimulating new experiences within the structure that we have become familiar with. This first class is a little longer than 'normal' because it's the transition class from Module A to module B, and making sure that everything is clear takes a little bit more explaining. But fear not, we will be back to our regular timings from the next class onwards. Welcome to the second class of Beginners Yoga Module B! This course is a continuation of Beginners Course Module A (links below) and is constructed in much the same way in that it's a 12 part course and each practice builds on the last. Evolving in depth, richness and always incorporating a new pose. In this 2nd class we explore new experiences with the back leg, using the wall in Trikonasana, Virabhadrasana II and Parvsakonasana to compliment the work that we did with the front leg in Class 1. We also introduce Stage 1 of our next level core strengtheners: Paripurna Navasana! And we continue to refine our Sarvangasana/Halasana Cycle experimenting with tightening the straps for deeper shoulder/upper back openings. Welcome to the 3rd class of Beginners Yoga Module B! In this particular class we integrate the front leg awareness of Class 1 with the back leg awareness of Class 2, paying particular attention to the rolling of the thighs and the corresponding action of the buttocks. We increase our connection with Paripurna Navasana, integrating Stage 2 into our sequence, building in more balance and more strength one session at a time. We also radically increase our attention to breath, depth, heart opening and mind-state. In fact, in some ways this practice is a turning point because for the first time we really take the time to explore what it means to be vibrantly strong and stretched in the body, alert and broad in our heart space (the sternum plate) and yet passive and quiet in the brain. Welcome to the 5th class of Beginners Yoga Module B! In this class we introduce two new poses into our sequence: Full Vrksasana and Stage 1 of Ardha Chandrasana. Both are balancing poses which symbolise our first step into a new level of focus! As always, we take our time to lay the foundations, so that by next class when the poses are explored in their 'final version', we feel ready to greet them with stability and confidence. We also integrate some the preparatory variations of Jathara Parivartanasana (supine twists) after Sarvangasana/Halasana which will gently become part of our established Practice Sequence. They feel absolutely wonderful, especially after Sarvangasana, and they help the abdomen and spine relax even more deeply in Savasana. Welcome to the 6th class of Beginners Yoga Module B. We are half way through now, getting stronger, more aware and more stable with each session. This practice continues to deepen our sequence whilst also introducing Stage 2 of Ardha Chandrasana (lifting the leg into balancing) and working with a fun variation of the strap on the back leg of Virabhadrasana I to make sure that we really experience the correct action of the thigh rolling in forever more! We also introduce a new core strengthener called Ardha Navasana - working on the first stage of this pose in preparation for the full pose next week. We continue integrating Jathara Parivartanasana (supine twists) after our Sarvangasana/Halasana Cycle, and, as always, endeavouring to enrich our practice experiences with new subtleties and deeper penetration. Continuing our journey together... welcome to the 8th class of Beginners Yoga Module B! In this practice we introduce 2 new poses. The first is Virahadrasana III - an extremely powerful balancing pose - and we use this session (and this next week of practice) to really work on mastering Stage 1 of Virabhadrasana III so that the foundations are crystal clear! The second new Asana in this practice is Jathara Parivartanasana (which we have been working on with bent legs), and today we finally explore the fullest expression of this beautiful supine twist with straight legs - an entirely new and delicious experience. We also take our Ardha Chandrasana away from the wall and into 'space' - exploring what it means to fully balance whilst maintaining integrity of alignment. Hopefully our work against the wall last week will have imprinted the correct source of movement into our system so that the final balancing action is as effortless as possible. Welcome to the 9th class of Beginners Yoga Module B! This is a pivotal practice in our sequence because for the first time since the beginning of this course (Module A) we move straight from Standing Poses into Dandasana - leaving out our Vajrasana and Urdhva Prasarita Padasana Cycle. This isn't because they are no longer important, but simply because we need to make space to integrate new poses into this sequence without practicing for 3 hours at a time! Both Vajrasana and UPP will be re-integrated into the next Module which will be composed of different practices for different days of the week. Progression! The new poses in this practice are full Virahadrasana III, Stage 1 & 2 of Parivritta Pravskaonasana and Eka Pada Sarvangasana. We explore Virabhadrasana III in 'space' (full balancing) and also with the back foot against the wall because the back leg of Virabhadrasana III is a crucial foundation for many future poses so we want the understanding and integration of its very specific action to be clear. Parivrtta Parsvakonasana is an absolutely beautiful and strengthening twisting pose and Stage 1 & Stage 2 obviously lead the way into the fuller expression of this pose in future sessions. Eka Pada Sarvangasana is a crucial deepening of the absolutely essential Sarvangasana cycle enriching our experience of this cycle and aiding us to spend more time upside down for enhanced health benefits. Welcome to the 10th class of Beginners Yoga Module B! As always we have new variations and new poses, notably integrating further twisting actions in Parivrtta Parsvakonasana and 2 new poses into our sequence called Parighasana and Karnapidasana. The 1st is a wonderful side flank stretch that comes at the end of Standing Poses and the 2nd is a deeply meditative inward experience in our evolving Sarvangasana Cycle. We also explore subtler aspects of Virabhadrasana I with front knee against a wall to deepen our connection with the front groin action, as well as Ardha Chandrasana and Virabhadrasana III with back foot against a wall to ignite maximum vitality and intelligence in the back leg. Furthermore, having focused so deeply on alignments of the legs in previous sessions, today, for the first time we also devote this practice to experiencing deeper understandings around the arms - in particular looking at how the arm bones connect into the shoulder sockets bringing greater awareness to our tendencies in this often overlooked area of the body. Meanwhile congratulations on your excellent work! Welcome to the 12th and final class of Beginners Yoga Module B! A HUGE Congratulations to you all!!! This is a truly memorable moment and in honour of this last session together I've infused the practice with an extra burst of energy, giving it my absolute ALL so that we end on the highest note possible. So I hope you'll follow my lead, pushing yourselves further than you thought possible and taking it as deep as you can go! As always we have some new poses: Parivrtta Parvskaonasana 7, Full Uttanasana, Full Parighasana Prep 1 and blissful Savasana, the fruit of our practice and the gateway to deeper meditative states. Today we also take the very important step of writing the sequence down. This is truly the biggest gift that I can give you and is absolutely CRUCIAL in supporting you to make the practice fully yours. Creating your own self-practice. Something that you'll have for life. With this in mind I'd love it if you would commit to practicing this sequence from your notes a minimum of 3X a week for the next few months so that the integration is complete and deep before continuing onto Intermediate Module A. Meanwhile please take a moment to honour this incredible transition from Beginner to Intermediate. I know how much work, pain, joy and commitment it is to get here and if we were together we'd be celebrating with hugs and delicious dahl.
